Goose is a local, general-purpose agent — coding, research, writing, automation, data analysis — built in Rust and runnable as a desktop app, CLI, or headless API on macOS, Linux, and Windows. Its extension model is MCP-first, connecting to more than 70 tool servers while remaining provider-neutral across Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Ollama, OpenRouter, Azure, Bedrock, and others. The project began at Block and now lives with the Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation, with 5,500-plus commits and a weekly release cadence. It suits developers and technical teams who want a local, hackable agent they can extend with their own MCP servers rather than a vendor-locked product.
