About

Bolt.new grew out of StackBlitz's WebContainers technology, which runs a Node.js environment inside the browser, so the agent's write-run-test loop executes client-side with second-level feedback instead of round-tripping to remote servers. Users describe an app or import a Figma design or GitHub repo, and the agent scaffolds, codes, and deploys; a Plan mode lets users approve a design before generation. Bolt Cloud layers production infrastructure on the generated code — hosted databases, authentication, file storage, SEO, analytics, and deployment to custom domains — so a project goes from prompt to a live, shareable application without leaving the tool. It targets founders, marketers, designers, and agencies as much as engineers, which shows in its positioning around Figma imports and one-click deploys. The hosted service is proprietary with free and Pro tiers; the open-source bolt.diy fork is a separate community project rather than Bolt's own codebase.
