JetBrains users who prefer CLI-native coding agents have been locked to whichever agent a given plugin vendor chose to support. AgentPort acts as a universal ACP client, so any agent that speaks the Agent Client Protocol can present its sessions inside the IDE without a bespoke integration. That decouples the choice of coding agent from the choice of IDE, and new ACP agents become usable in JetBrains without plugin updates. The primary users are JetBrains-centric developers who want to keep their IDE while mixing agents from different vendors.
